This is Buzzy's Country Store blog designed to keep you apprised of what's going on at the Store. Buzzy's is a general store located in St. Mary's County, Southern Maryland near Pt. Favorite Week

OK, you have your favorite holiday, your favorite day of the year, your favorite time or season of the year, but have you ever thought about your favorite week of the year?

I bring this up today because in Buzzy's Country Store I've often heard folks say how much they enjoy this week between Christmas and New Year's Day.  Most of the time the folks who say this have either taken the week off from work or if they do have to trundle into their jobsite, note how it's always a very slow and laid back time of year to be at work.  (Note that most of my still-working-Buzzy-amigos are on the Base in an office pushing paper.)

When I asked a young mother of 3 her favorite week, she quickly responded "The first week of school."  Turns out that one good by-product of living thru the pandemic is that we now tend to better appreciate, and hold in higher regard, our school system, not so much for what they teach our kids, but for serving as subsidized day care for working parents!  Prior to the pandemic, everyone pretty much took that for granted proving Joni once again correctomundo when she said "You don't know what you got until it's gone."

Other answers I get on favorite weeks involve the start of hunting or fishing seasons, Thanksgiving week and my favorite - MLB's opening week.  Too, I will hear some folks cite personal favorite weeks when they get away on vacation or go somewhere special every year for a week.

But overall, the answer I get most when asking folks for a favorite week is this week that we are in right now.  The nice thing about this week between the Christmas celebration, and the New Year is that it marks a good transition from past to future.  The week starts out with a giant exhale and "glad-it-is-over" feeling about all the Christmas noise that is now in your rear view.

And as the week spools out, you start to think about and make your plans for the new year.  You can even go deep and introspective by taking a good look at what you did or did not do this past year and vow to try and work on/correct those things next year.  The month of January is named after the Roman god Janus who is often depicted as the two-faced god.  That he is portrayed as such is not bercause he is a big hypocrite or is a bipolar kinda fella, but because he is looking back while looking forward. This is a week when you can do just that in a somewhat leisurely manner.  Other times of the year, you are too busy to do so.  As John warned us "Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans."

And since I quoted her, here's Joni with that tune:
