Couple weeks ago ny buddy Rich Brewer forwarded me some info on Eva Cassidy and noted that her Wiki entry concludes as follows: "In accordance with her wishes, her body was cremated and her ashes were scattered on the lake shores of the St. Mary's Watershed Park, a nature reserve near Callaway, Md."

As I checked her out, I landed on the Youtube video One Night That Changed Everything in which her former bandmates reunite to watch a showing of a performance they did with Eva at the Blues Alley in Georgetown.  The video  (click hereis a documentary within a documentary as the bandmates sit and reminisce about Eva and that night.

Eva died from cancer at the young age of 33.  I've been trying to figure out a way to find out what her Southern Maryland connection was and why she chose the Lake as her place to have her ashes scattered.   The closest explanation I could find was something stated in this 2002 Washingtonian article about her:

I got to believe that at some time during one of those Sunday drives from their hometown in Bowie, Eva and her Mom ended up at St. Mary's Lake.  I'm guessing that Eva liked it enough to want to return there as in forever.

In yesterday's Washington Post, columnist John Kelly had a good article on Eva.  Excerpt follows, and if the Post's paywall allows you to do so, you can read the entire article (click here and scroll over to B5.)

An Eva song is currently featured in a Kay Jeweler's commercial playing in the background.  You can see/hear that commercial by clicking here but with Valentine's Day approaching, you will probably be hearing it just as Eva sings at the commercial's end - Time After Time.  Listen below as  she performs the entire song.  Sad song made even sadder by Eva's going out of here far too soon.  I may just have to hit the Lake later to say hello and try and cheer her up some.
