Fixing A Hole (Toilet)

Nice thing about prowling around your childhood home is that you never know what memory will be stirred up.

For instance, just the other day I was repairing a leaky toilet in one of the apartments above the Store.  As I removed the tank's lid I saw a date inscribed on the inside of the tank.  My first thought was "Man, this bad boy is old."  My next thought was "Hey, wait a minute, I think this is the toilet that used to be in the downstairs bathroom when I was a kid."  I then checked it out some more and sure enough the memory of it came in full focus.

Still, I couldn't believe that it was the same toilet.  I called Mom and asked her "Do you remember what color the toilet was in the downstairs bathroom at the Store?"

She laughed and said "My Lord honey what kind of question is that?  But since you asked,  I believe it was light blue now that I think about it.  Why do you want to know?"

After I explained my discovery, she replied.  "Well, you know your Father.  He would never throw anything away if he could use it somewhere.  I bet he did move it upstairs."

My guess is that following the fire in 83 when Buzzy completely renovated the living areas above and behind the Store, he relocated this particular toilet from downstairs to upstairs.  Thus, the toilet ended up where it is due to Buzzy's fixing up the place.

The Beatles' Fixing a Hole is from their Sgt. Pepper's album which recently celebrated it's 50th anniversary.  PBS had a special on it that's worth watching if you get a chance to do (click here for info and video trailer.)

Not THE Beatles here but still a nice cover of the song just the same.  Great George Harrison guitar rif too.
