This is Buzzy's Country Store blog designed to keep you apprised of what's going on at the Store. Buzzy's is a general store located in St. Mary's County, Southern Maryland near Pt. Lookout State Park. Buzzy and Jean Ridgell purchased the Store from Jean's father Harry Raley in 1953. Buzzy operated it until his passing in 2009. His son J. Scott Ridgell is the current owner.

Buzzy's Inauguration as County Commissioner

Speaking of being sworn into office, here is the 13 Dec 1962 Enterprise front page photo of Buzzy being sworn in as County Commissioner along with Elliott Burch and Wilmer Bowles.  For rest of article click on link.

Buzzy ran and won on the Raley Team ticket as follows:

I remember Buzzy telling me that during their 4 years as Commissioners he and Elliott and Wilmer passed the first million dollar budget for the County.  He said they got all kinds of negative feedback for spending that kind of money.  (Note, the County's current budget is over $227 million.   The school board budget alone is approximately $210 million.)

Buzzy loved being a County Commissioner.  Not only did he enjoy the constituent give and take that went along with the job but also it got him out of the Store at least one day a week.  He ran for re-election in 1966 but lost out to another "ticket" of folks who ran on the promise that they would bring slot machines back to the County.  That promise was never realized but that's how the game of politics goes I guess.

This song has absolutely nothing to do with any of the above, I just think it's a pretty good tune. The again Buzzy really was a country boy at heart.
