This is Buzzy's Country Store blog designed to keep you apprised of what's going on at the Store. Buzzy's is a general store located in St. Mary's County, Southern Maryland near Pt. Lookout State Park. Buzzy and Jean Ridgell purchased the Store from Jean's father Harry Raley in 1953. Buzzy operated it until his passing in 2009. His son J. Scott Ridgell is the current owner.

Apartment 1

Buzzy's Country Store currently has a vacant apartment for rent.  It is Apartment 1 and is a one bedroom efficiency, unfurnished.  Monthly rent is $750 and includes all utilities, cable and wi-fi.

In many ways, Apartment 1 is my favorite one at the Store because it was where our old kitchen and living room used to be when we all lived behind the Store.  If you look closely now from the Store side just behind the candy counter you can still see the doorway passage that used to lead back to this Apartment 1 area.  (In the above photo it would have been right there in the middle of the wall in front of the ceiling fan light.)

I can remember sitting around the dinner table for two shifts as my Grandfather Harry would first eat with us and then head out to cover the Store for Buzzy to come back and have something to eat.  Our dinners were not the drawn out what-did-you-do-at-school-today  affairs.  You said Grace, you ate and then you cleaned up.  Buzzy would go back out in the Store and we would all adjourn to go play, do homework or watch T-V.   Mom of course would clean up.

Apartment 1 is also the first one that I completely renovated and upgraded when I initially bought the place in 2007.  Apartment 1 was my first rental and I can remember having to assure the new tenant that Buzzy's was a safe place to live.  He had done some checking around and had heard stories that Buzzy's had a reputation as being a little bit of a wild place.  At that time I couldn't really argue otherwise because we still had some sketchy tenants who indeed fit the "little wild" category.  I assured my would be tenant that I was in the process of clearing out whatever wild problems we had and assured him that he would be safe at Buzzy's.

The tenant who rented Apartment 1 in 2007 has since moved on but to this day we remain friends and in frequent contact.  I always smile thinking about our first interview and him telling me that he had heard Buzzy's was a little wild.  Hopefully, that image and reputation is in the past.  If you know anyone looking for a quiet and safe place to live let me know.
