This is Buzzy's Country Store blog designed to keep you apprised of what's going on at the Store. Buzzy's is a general store located in St. Mary's County, Southern Maryland near Pt. Lookout State Park. Buzzy and Jean Ridgell purchased the Store from Jean's father Harry Raley in 1953. Buzzy operated it until his passing in 2009. His son J. Scott Ridgell is the current owner.

Twofer Tuesday - Two Whiskey Bottles

When Nancy Barber spied the old brown whiskey bottle sitting on the shelf in Buzzy's Country Store she commented that she and her husband Bruce had recently came upon a similar one when they cleaned up an old trash heap on the their property.  She asked to borrow it and promised to return it after she did some research into the background of the 2 bottles.  

Nancy not only returned my bottle but she also gave me the one that she and Bruce found. 


Nancy even included footnotes and documentation on what the bottles' engravings represented:

My thanks to Nancy for all her research and efforts to explain the markings on these old whiskey bottles.  Reminded me of some old song I recall hearing about a Little Brown Jug.  However, I don't think the jugs had such intricate engravings as these bottles:
