Sunday Sermons - Keep 'Em Short

As we roll into a post-Covid world of things getting back to whatever version of "normal" we once knew, I maintain that some Covid-imposed mandates should remain permanently.

For example, out in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the Archbishop imposed a 5 minute limit on all sermons and then threatened to suspend any of his priests who went over the limit.  Obviously that freedom of speech thing didn't bother the Archbishop.  Here is that story from August of last year.

Five minute warning: Santa Fe warns of preaching suspensions for homilies over time limit (catholicnewsagency.com)

It reminded me of a joke my Cousin Father John once told in one of his homilies.  A priest, who was noted for giving long sermons, addressed his congregation one Sunday by noting "It is hot today and I am wearing heavy vestments so I  will keep my sermon short."  As the congregation breathed a sigh of relief, the priest then said "If you think it's hot here, just wait.  Amen."

No sermons nor time limits at Buzzy's Country Store on Sundays - just lots of cold beer and good company.

Speaking of good ideas whose time has come, if you've never checked out the long version of this tune, it is worth 11 minutes of your time to do so.
