WELCOME!

This is Buzzy's Country Store blog designed to keep you apprised of what's going on at the Store. Buzzy's is a general store located in St. Mary's County, Southern Maryland near Pt. Lookout State Park. Buzzy and Jean Ridgell purchased the Store from Jean's father Harry Raley in 1953. Buzzy operated it until his passing in 2009. His son J. Scott Ridgell is the current owner.

Mary Lou Monday

Mary Lou Troutman week here on the Buzzyblog.  (Note to Linda:  I will still do the Buzzy birthdays and monthly events on Thursday 1 April, but the other days this week are Mary Lou days.)

Several years ago my sister Lila gave Mary Lou several photos of Buzzy's Country Store and asked her to do a painting of the Store.  The result was this first Mary Lou Store painting titled Return for Deposit.

The ice house is no longer around and neither are the gas tanks, but other than those items, the Store is pretty much the same today as what Mary Lou painted then from the old photos that Lila gave her.  The only little "anomaly" or inconsistency that Mary Lou is guilty of here is her showing Capt. Dick Wood and Buzzy sitting on the front porch playing checkers - something that they never did.  Them drinking on the front porch would have been the more accurate depiction of them!

While that first Mary Lou version is no longer available for purchase, her second painting of the Store Thirsty Thursday still is.  Some folks differentiate between the two as the day time version and the nighttime version.  As you can see below, nighttime Thursday is still available from Mary Lou via her website (click here for info on how to contact her if you are interested in purchasing a copy.)  I also have an extra, framed copy of Thirsty Thursday and if you are interested in it let me know.

Tomorrow I will tell you how we presented one of Mary Lou's Store prints to our friends Tammy Shipman, her Mom Trudy and daughter Harley as a going away gift.  (Tammy is a Commander in the Navy and is in the process of relocating to her next duty assignment in Florida.)

Speaking of saying goodbye to folks, check out Toby Keith here saying goodbye to his friend and fellow musician Wayman Tisdale who died from bone cancer at the young age of 45.  Toby is generally noted for his kick ass, how-do-you-like-me-now bravado songs, but here he may just bring a tear to your eye as he says a final goodbye to his friend.  (Thank God Tammy and her family are just moving to Florida and can come back and visit us!)
