July is always a hot mutha. Our average summer temps are usually somewhere in the mid to low 70's, but in July that average shoots up to the mid to high 80's (click here.)
I know all this from some very hands on experience. Back in 1980 after I had purchased my Piney Point house in 79, I decided to tear off the roof and do some major renovations. The week I picked to undertake this effort was from the 14th of July thru the 21st. Here is something I saved from the paper discussing the record breaking heat during that time.
On the two days that the temps set 100+ records we were on the roof ripping and tearing it off. It was a hot one.
