This is Buzzy's Country Store blog designed to keep you apprised of what's going on at the Store. Buzzy's is a general store located in St. Mary's County, Southern Maryland near Pt. Lookout State Park. Buzzy and Jean Ridgell purchased the Store from Jean's father Harry Raley in 1953. Buzzy operated it until his passing in 2009. His son J. Scott Ridgell is the current owner.

Joltin' Joe

Here's a little exercise for all you non-baseball fans:  today in your travels ask any quasi-baseball fan "What's so great about the number 56?"  If that person can not tell you, then he is not a true baseball fan. 

Joe DiMaggio hit in 56 straight games in 1941 to set a record that will probably never be broken.  (Pete Rose came closest with 44 straight.)

I was reminded of this just the other day when I saw that Joe's streak ended on 17 July.  There is an interesting back story as to how the opposing third baseman Ken Keltner robbed Joe of two possible hits during that game (click here.)
