A followup to my post the other day about the delivery guy who said that he hated his job driving a truck and wanted to cut grass because that is what he really enjoyed doing.
It reminded me of something I once saw about job satisfaction where folks were asked to rate on a scale of one to five how much they enjoyed their current job. Results were as follows: 10% said that they loved their job, 20% said they liked their job, 30% said they did not like what they did and 40% said they hated what they were doing.
When I worked on Base in a customer service environment, I continually reminded the guys who worked for me that 7 out of 10 people who came to our window for services and supplies were not happy about doing what they were doing. I pointed out to them that we needed to learn how to deal with the unhappy attitudes of so many unhappy people. The other thing I encouraged them to do was to seek employment somewhere else out of my domain if they found themselves in the 70% "Don't like/hate" categories of job satisfaction.
Here is a good article on why folks end up working in jobs that they don't particularly care for (click here.) Hint - it has to do with earning a paycheck. Speaking of which, what are the odds of a singer with the last name of Paycheck doing a song about quitting a job that he doesn't care for?
